Luckily, there are things you can do to help your child’s little teeth poke through the gums as well as soothe your child. Tip No. 3: Avoid using lidocaine and amber teething necklaces to ease your child’s discomfort. Lidocaine is an oral numbing ointment that can be poisonous to infants and young children and could cause seizures, brain damage, and even death. The amber teething necklaces supposed to release a substance that dulls pain, but there is no scientific evidence to back that up. The necklaces can also fall apart and become a choking hazard.
