If you have periodontal disease, our dentists can perform a pocket irrigation to clean plaque from between your teeth and gums, and prevent the colonization of harmful bacteria in your mouth. This treatment has the added benefit of helping to prevent bad breath. We invite you to call Wasatch Gentle Dental at 801-262-6661 to learn more about pocket irrigation in Murray, Utah, and make your appointment with Dr. Andrew Smith.
Pocket irrigation, also known as oral irrigation, is a versatile dental treatment, and may be performed as part of a professional dental cleaning, as part of a pocket reduction treatment, or at home as part of your oral hygiene routine. Our dentists may also use this treatment to deliver antibacterial medications to the subgingival areas of your mouth.
When you receive this treatment, our dentists will clear food particles, plaque, and other debris from between your teeth. This will clear your mouth of harmful bacteria, and keep the periodontal pockets in your mouth clean and shallow.
Pocket irrigation devices usually have a rounded tip to reduce the risk of tissue damage and facilitate a more thorough cleaning. If you perform a pocket irrigation at home, we recommend that you use a Water Jet or a Waterpik, as it will be less harmful to your soft tissues. Pocket irrigation does not take the place of your regular dental cleanings at our practice.
